I covered a double-leg from a Russian and a knee pick from a crossover. On the ground, I covered three kuzure kesa gatame escapes.
SAM'S RECAP:
As I lay here and contemplate how many Advils I should or shouldn’t take, I thought I would summarize the events of this morning. More commonly referred to as the recap.
It had only been about 17-18 months since the last one. I will leave the exact time to Prof who was an actuary in a former life.
Good group today, Josh hosted us at Weapon Muay Thai, a great place to get work in at.
Present were, Josh, Prof, Chad, Young Brady, Howard and Ryan. Missing were Duy, Edward, Tony and Jason. They undoubtedly had heard I was coming back and had to make a business decision about their participation. I mean, who cold blame them?
Prof went over a couple of ways to get to a single leg and an escape from Kesa.
Five minute rounds were the order of the day. I figured that my time off would mean I was fresh and rested and that Prof was worn down, so I asked him for the first dance on my card. Prof obliged and after about four minutes, I figured what he missed about me taking part. I thought it was my sparkling personality and encouragement but suddenly realized it was merely submitting me. He quickly made up for lost time in the first round. I can’t tell you what he did to me, but it wasn’t fun and I think he was probably smiling as he did it. I got a good look at the ceiling of Weapon Muay Thai while spending time on my back throughout our rolls.
I took a break and watched him and Josh roll, looking to see if he was going to perform a knee slide or not. Fortunately, he didn’t.
Chad and I rolled and then I watched Howard and Brady. Howard employed a Middleburg Headlock, followed by trying to shove Brady’s elbow into his nose while in mount. I suspected, and Howard confirmed later, that he had a wresting background. He goes hard. I left Ryan alone; his arms are large and frankly I wasn’t ready for that smoke on day one. I took a picture of the group and sent to Rory Barrett, who needs to join us.
All and all, another good day of BJJ.
