WOW! WHAT A SMALL CLASS!

SATURDAY, 3 NOVEMBER 2012

David and Jason did not attend Saturday's festivities at Wolfpack BJJ Orange Park/First Coast Kodokan Judo.  Florida played (and won) earlier in the day, so Jason should have attended.  I do not know why David missed, either.

Regardless, I had a purple and blue belt on the mat for BJJ, and we ended up with even numbers for judo once Greg showed up.  We spent a lot of time on ashi-waza, specifically foot sweeps, and worked hane-goshi as our major forward throw for the night.

JUST A FEW PICTURES

Dave had to have one of me in the BJJ black belt with Charles.  Dave was there when I was promoted to brown, and he was there when I made it to black.  He has, strangely enough, been around for half of my promotions.  Thanks for the help, Dave!!

I had to have one of me in the BJJ black belt with Greg.  Is that a little goofy?  Maybe, but he has been around for a good portion of the journey in BJJ, and I look forward to the day when I earn another one in judo from him.

FL-GA FOOTBALL = CANCEL CLASS

SATURDAY, 27 OCTOBER 2012

As a result of numerous cancellations, and the fact that our judo coach lives at the beaches and it would be unfair to expect him to fight FL-GA traffic to get home, we did not hold BJJ or judo classes on Saturday night.

WEDNESDAY, 24 OCTOBER 2012

WEDNESDAY, 24 OCTOBER 2012

It was a small class on Wednesday night with me, Nick, Ethan, and Josh M.  I went over three triangle escapes (and even discovered a better way to do one in the process) and covered a couple of methods of dealing with "what to do" when caught in the Americana (other than tap immediately).  We also reviewed some of the techniques from the trip down to Charles', and expanded on some of the methodology that Charles taught.

SARASOTA TRIP

FRIDAY, 19 OCTOBER 2012

A small group from Wolfpack BJJ Orange Park made a "pilgrimmage" down to Sarasota to receive instruction from my instructor, Charles Dos Anjos.  It was my first trip to the main academy since receiving the black belt last week.

We worked De la Riva guard (opponent on the ground and standing), standing from guard against an overly defensive opponent, and I learned a new addition to the classic clock choke.

I had the opportunity to roll against a few of Charles' purple belts, and I think that my folks did okay in their exchanges with those who train daily with Charles.

NEW BLACK BELT IN ORANGE PARK

That would be me.  Charles Dos Anjos promoted me to black belt in BJJ yesterday.  Wish me luck as I travel this new road.

BREAKING THE LOCKDOWN

Saturday 1 September 2012

I taught three different ways of dealing with the Bravo lockdown in this morning's BJJ class (Greg canceled judo, so I moved the class to this morning so some people could watch Gator football this afternoon).  Strangely, I also got a tap on Ethan with a gogoplata...I have NEVER used a gogoplata.  I guess Eddie's "rubber guard" materialized in my soul today.
