SATURDAY, 6 OCTOBER 2018

Today was a full house, consisting of me, Jason, John, Ryan, Tony, Steve, and Jack.

Today's main focus was on achieving the Americana from side-control. I showed four different methods for securing the technique.

We briefly touched on half-guard items before rolling for about 45 minutes.

SATURDAY, 15 SEPTEMBER 2018

Today's class was me, Jason, John, Tony, Steve, and Jack.

We went over three knee-on-belly escapes, reviewed the bread cutter choke, reviewed an escape to the seat belt grip, and also my "go to" escape from the clock choke.

I was able to roll with Tony, John, and Jason.

This also marked our last class at this location. I helped AFR move to our new location.

SATURDAY, 8 SEPTEMBER 2018

Today's class had me, Jason, John, Ryan, the return of Steve after injuries, and a new guy brought in by John (Abel).

We covered half-guard sweeps and recoveries. We rolled, and I was quite proud of a sneaky back take I did on John.

SATURDAY, 1 SEPTEMBER 2018

Today was just me and Jason. How sad for those who were injured or finishing their tattoos.

I went over half-guard defenses for Jason, focusing on the situation when the person on top in half-guard decides to take up a reverse (ichiro) kesa-gatame position.

SATURDAY, 25 AUGUST

Today's class had me, Jason, John, Tony, and Jack.

Most of the class was spent on basic items. I covered three basic smash passes, reviewed the bow-and-arrow choke escape, and briefly touched on a half-guard sweep.

SATURDAY, 11 AUGUST 2018

Today's class had me, Jason, Ryan, and Tony.

We covered the butterfly guard. We began by dealing with a situation where the opponent blocks the hips and chooses not to engage. We moved from there to a series of arm locks and then into the omoplata. We briefly addressed defenses to the bow-and-arrow choke before rolling.

SATURDAY, 02 JUNE 2018

Today's class had me, Jason, and Ryan.

From standing, we reviewed the Russian series and how to recognize when to shoot off of the results. We went over the duck-under series, again with a focus on recognizing when to attack. Jason and I used the crash pad to work back suplex techniques.

On the ground, we went over bow-and-arrow chokes and transitions to arm bars. We worked on how to grab and control the hands when on our opponent's back.

I was able to roll with both Jason and Ryan, though both are suffering through injuries at the present time.

THURSDAY, 03 MAY 2018

Today was an example of black (belt) on black (belt) crime, with me and Nick training together.

Proverbs 27:17 claims that iron sharpens iron. Black belts in BJJ are similar in that respect.

SATURDAY, 31 MARCH 2018

Today's class had me, Jason, John, and Tommy.

We started in butterfly guard. I taught a reverse arm bar, an Americana, and a Kimura from the position.

We moved to closed guard, where we focused on tying up the opponent's wrist and taking the back.

We spent a large amount of time on our feet, focusing on strikes, pummeling, and taking the fight to the ground.

Saturday, March 17, 2018

FRIDAY, 16 MARCH 2017

John and I trained chest (bench press, incline dumbbell press, cable crossover) and then rolled today.

Monday, March 12, 2018

SATURDAY, 10 MARCH 2017

We went over self-defense aspects of BJJ. We started with strikes while standing and then transitioned to closing the distance and then to the ground. We worked on strike defenses from the bottom and transitioning to submissions and strikes.

SATURDAY, 03 MARCH 2018

Today's class consisted of just me, Rebecca, and Tommy. I will attribute the poor attendance to the cold weather.

We worked on an escape from side-control when the opponent changes directions and moves north-south to the other side.

We then worked on butterfly-guard (introduction for white and blue belts) and also worked on concepts from half-guard (taking the back, kimura, armbar, etc.).

Tommy & I rolled for a bit following the class.

SATURDAY, 17 FEBRUARY 2018

Today's class had me, Jason, John, Tommy, Steve, and two newcomers from CCSO (Mike & Jamie).

I covered a basic way to open the guard, the basic smash pass series (around and through), the front bear-hug escape with arms trapped, and then had everyone roll.

Thursday, February 15, 2018

Today's class had me, John, Ryan, Rebecca, and a newcomer, Tim.

I went over transitions from side control to kesa-gatame, back to side-control, and on to ichiro kesa-gatame. We then moved on to chokes from the guard, and then on to a wrestling review.

Rebecca bailed early, but the rest of us rolled before pulling up the mats.

Monday, February 5, 2018

SATURDAY, 3 FEBRUARY 2018

Today's class was just made up of me, John, Steve, and Nicole.

Full mount escapes were the flavor of the day. We worked on the basic trap arm/trap leg escape, the frame escape, and a variation of trap arm/trap leg escape.

We moved to the cross collar choke from guard, focusing on use of the wrists to achieve the choke.

John, Steve, and I rolled at the end of class.

Saturday, January 27, 2018

SATURDAY, 27 JANUARY 2018

Today's class was just me, Ryan, and Steve. We worked on self-defense issues. We dealt with a front bear hug (arms trapped), moving to three options (o goshi, rear take down, and take down if opponent grabs a headlock). We also worked strikes instead of take downs.

On the ground, we worked headlock escapes to an arm bar and to a back take.

01-20-2018 SEMINAR

Rebecca, Steve, and I took a trip south and attended a seminar given by my instructor, Charles Dos Anjos, on Saturday, 20 January 2018.

I personally learned a few nuggets (how to shut down DLR guard and Berimbolo, for instance), and I was able to add to my understanding of DLR guard.

Apparently, I have been a higher rank than I am currently wearing since 11 June 2016, so that was remedied.
